Getting back into Guild Wars (for Guild Wars 2 rewards!) - Guild Wars Forums

Hey, so I played when Guild Wars first came out until somewhere through Factions then stopped playing. I'm looking to get back into Guild Wars so I can continue to gain rewards for Guild Wars 2. I only have Prophecies and Factions at the moment and am probably going to keep it that way until I complete some of the things I haven't yet then will probably get Eyes of the North to activate my Hall of Monuments.

Basically need some help getting back on my feet. Back when I was playing I'd call myself a fairly advanced player (at least at the time). My account was hacked and I'm missing pieces of armor on all of my characters (some are completely naked). I don't remember how to get armor so I can replace the pieces that are missing and I also have 0 platinum.

Maybe there's someone or a guild that wouldn't mind helping me get into the swing again. I'm mainly a PvE player, but have done some occasional PvP (got to the last part of Hall of Heroes once). I believe I have one of each class for Prophecies and Factions at level 20.

If you have absolutely nothing then my best suggestion would be to start a new character. At least until you have some material and money then you can buy armour for the character you plan to gain your titles on.

You could try playing with a character with incomplete armour but you may struggle, I would suggest starting in the low level areas of the game.

Factions quests should net you some decent money depending on how many you've already done. You can get maximum level armour from Kaineng Center when you have the money and materials.
Once you start working on titles more money should come in, you'll get a fair bit from completing missions and the campaign then also from Vanquishes if/when you have Hard Mode available.

I have a few titles on various characters across the account and I have some armor on a few characters (think it's factions armor that couldn't be sold). For example my Monk has his weapons, off hands, hands and legs. The other pieces were from a different armor set if I remember right.

Just trying to get to an "OK" point before I randomly join some mission and fail miserably. >_<

Another easy method for gaining your max armor, would be PvP now. And since you have factions, you could just Jade Quarry or Fort Aspenwood PvP. Balthazar faction can now be turned into these Zaishen Keys (for another title). It takes 5k balthazar faction per key. People have been buying each key for 6k each lately, and it doesn't take that long to acquire that 5k faction. Earn just 2 keys and you should be able to afford a full set of max armor and good to go

A couple of things worth noting...

Check each of your toons before you delete them and look to see if you've gotten Birthday Presents. You could sell those for quite a bit of money in-game, so be sure and look for them BEFORE you go deleting anything!

Also, take a look at this thread. If you haven't collected your Tournament Points already, you'll want to do that and sell the Z-keys for $5k/each. That'll give you a fast $50k...more than enough to get new armor.

The birthday presents count towards HoM rewards if I read right so I'd probably keep those. Doubt I'll delete any of my toons as I have done quite a bit on all of them. I still have a character slot though if I wanted to make a new one for money.

I'm pretty sure that your account hasn't been hacked. Why would anyone steal your armor, while they are only usable on you? I've been seeing posts from returning players that have problems with lost armor. Don't know the reason though.

I'd suggest making a new character, like many others.

They don't sell the armor that salvage it for materials and or runes.

There are these things called "Runes" and "Insignias" on armor which, at times, can be rather valuable. There are people (lets call them "Hackers") who will illegally access a person's account, and upon seeing these "Runes" and "Insignias" will salvage them. Occasionally, the armor pieces will survive this salvaging, and merely be stripped of runes, while other times the armor pieces will be destroyed.

On the other hand, sometimes they'll target the armor itself for salvaging, in cases where the armor contains valuable materials, such as Globs of Ectoplasm, and Obsidian Shards from Obsidian armor, or Rubies and Sapphires from Vabbian armor.

Ya know what, never mind. You're right. Absolutely no reason for someone to get rid of your character's armor.

It takes 20 minis to get to the first rank of that monument. Even assuming you can find cheap minis (5k undedicated seems to be the cheapest, even for 1st year whites), it'll take you 100k to just get 1 point towards the HoM rewards. For now, I'd say it's probably worth saving one white mini (whichever is the cheapest, check the price-check threads in the auction forum) and maybe a gold, if you have one; you get a point for the first white mini you dedicate and one for the first gold. Mm, 1st year whites can be gotten for cheaper than 5k, if you put some effort in to it by stalking the sell forum here. But I agree -- converting a couple of more expensive 5th year minis to cash to buy a lot of cheap 1st-3rd year minis would be a wise decision.

Canthan New Year is coming up. Farming the easy quests on all characters will yield a number of Lunar Tokens -- you can sell these directly, or you could convert them to Lunar Fortunes to sell or use in hopes of getting minis, or convert them to Red Gift Bags to sell.

On the subject of farming, keep an eye on what Nicholas the Traveler is collecting each week. You can get 5 gifts per account per week, and sell the gifts for 4.5-5k each.

I personally would suggest getting Eye of the North as soon as possible. It's wicked cheap at NewEgg right now, and it will fully open up War in Kryta. While that content isn't "easy peasy," once you get max armor and your feet wet (and, ahem, the North heroes), it can be an amazing source of cash, both directly from completing quests, and from War Supplies/Weapons which can be sold for a good amount.

We're awaiting "Winds of Change," which will take place in the Factions campaign. It will probably also provide some money-making, HoM-filling opportunities.

Hey hey, I just want to say you can totally do it! In my 5.5 years, I would probably be considered a total failure as a GW player. I quit 3 characters before they even made it to ascending. My elementalist quit at LA, my Ranger made it to the desert but quit shortly after, and my warrior quit just after reaching post searing.

Anyway, after reading about the HoM rewards, I finally decided to go for it, and I bought the trilogy + EotN and started a completely new account exactly 1 month ago. I am now at 27 points, with enough gold for 28 points, and just a few more quests to get 30 points.

Here's my advice on the route to take, as well as the cheapest and easiest points to go for:

Keep your year 1, 2 and possibly year 3 white minis. Keep your year 1 purple minis too. You will probably want to dedicate these as they are the cheapest. Sell the rest of them off in the 'Sell' forum to ensure you get a good price for it. This ought give you quite a fair bit of gold to start with

First of I would advice you to put together a solid H/H team, which means finishing quests to acquire heroes, travel to places to learn or capture skills. Do this while completing your main missions. I'm still a noob so I can't say what's best, but 2 Ritualist heroes and a Minion Master Neceomancer has worked extremely well for me. You won't have immediate access to them, so you're going to have to work your way towards them and their skills, constantly hopping across all the different campaigns.

Olias - Necromancer: Easily acquirable once you reach Lions Arch.
Xandra - Ritualist: Aquirable early on in the EotN campaign.
Razah - Ritualist: Hardest to acquire. Only available after completing Nightfall.

Once you acquire a good H/H team, you should be able to roll through most missions and areas with ease. Finish up all 3 campaigns and try to go for the master reward on both Nightfall and Factions. You won't be earning many points during this stage, but things get faster after you have opened up most areas and have access to most armorers and have some gold.

While you're in Factions, capture the Black Moa and dedicate it for an easy 2 points. Also trade in your faction points for jadite and amber shards. Expert salvage all the amber and jade weapons you get as you might be able to salvage rare materials out of it.
By now you should have 10 points.

3 - Accounts linked
2 - Any title
3 - 5 titles (Hero of Tyria, Cantha, Elona. Protector of Cantha and Elona)
1 - Any pet statue
1 - Any rare pet statuel

Continue on to the EotN questline and finish it while earning reputation points. Then get on to the War in Kryta content where you're able to obtain an Opressor weapon pretty much by finishing the quests.

1 - Any weapon statue
1 - Any Opresssor weapon

Total points: 10 + 2 = 12

The rest of it is down to farming hero armors, farming reputation points and gold. Let's have a quick run through.

Fellowship

Stolen Sunspear Armor - 5 hero upgrades (took me 25 minutes)
Ancient Armor Remnants - 5 hero upgrades (took me an hour 15 mins)
Mysterious Armor Remnants - 5 hero upgrades (took me 20 mins to get 1, haven't done the rest)
Cloth of the Brotherhood - 10 hero upgrades (took me 22 minutes per piece)

Imperial Phoenix - Obtained at the end of Factions
Black Widow - Not sure havent got it yet
MOX - Free

Good for 6 points, 5 of which are easily obtainable.

Total points: 12+ 6 = 18

Devotion

1 - Any Minature
1 - Rare Minature - Costs about 40k if you can find a good deal
1 - Unique Minature - Free from a quest (although I'm planning to buy mine because I think I can earn gold faster than the time it takes to do it)

2 - 20 Minatures - You need 18 more. Year 1 whites can be bought for about 2.5k, Year 2 whites for 5k, and year 1 purples for 10k. Total cost: 80k (40k per point)

Total points 18 + 5 = 23

Valor

1 - Destroyer Weapon: You can craft one of these after finishing the EotN storyline. Should cost you about 40k.

23 + 1 = 24 points

Resilience

This one is pretty much all about gold. My main character happened to be an elementalist fortunately, and most of the material costs were very cheap.

Luxon Armor - 100k including materials

Monument, Asuran, Norn and Ancient Armor - 160k not counting materials. I spent less than 5k total on materials crafting all 4 armors.

2 more armors - 120k not including materials

This will give you the last 6 points to hit 30, and I believe it's one of the cheapest routes.
